I want to redeem some of my AGR points for a trip down to Orlando this January.

The last time I redeemed points , I thought the AGR agent informed me that travel could not initiate or end on a week-end. Is this correct or not ?

I would like to start planning soon for the trip and I would really like to know which days I can use for it.

There are certain blackout periods for travel on the long-distance trains. You can expect blackouts around the major holidays but I don't think it specifically applies to Fridays and Sundays.

There may be AGR restrictions on Friday and Sunday travel within the Northeast Corridor though.

Best advice is to call the AGR number and ask the agent whether you can use your points when you want to go.

There are no blackouts on generic weekends that I know of. The blackout dates are on or around certain holidays, as David says. But his advice is good: phone AGR and find out. The website also lists the blackout dates, I believe, although they may not be up-to-the-minute accurate--so it's really best to phone.
