My wife & I took the Sunset Limited from home in Tucson down to just outside New Oleans & back. 25
miles north of Lafayette, La we were eating lunch and the train suddenly braked very hard and stopped about 1/4 mile . A person had driven onto the track and the train hit him full force.
As theyhauled the jeep type vehicle away one could see it had been extremely smashed. The driver was killed & later on the car steward mentioned the engineer said he seemed to pull on the track and wait for the train.
I have not been able to find out anytyhing much about the incident, fact wise.Does anyone have any info ?
Other than that, the round trip was good - except for a lot of waiting for freights - got home about 3 hours late. Steve in so az

Unfortunately, the time period around thanksgiving and Christmas becomes prime time for suicides. We have had 3 in last two weeks or so in NE corridor.
