Does anyone have any new and exciting information on the Flyaway Bus between LAX airport and Union Station? I will be trying it for the first time next week. I'm given to understand that the fare is $4.00, payable at the LAUPT end; that it's a green bus that runs every half hour from the passenger arrival level at LAX airport; and that it drops off passengers at the far end of the boarding tunnel at Union Station. My itinerary allows over two hours for the connection. Am I OK?

Any information is deeply appreciated.

At what time of day are you allowing this two hours for a connection? Train to airport or the other direction? That may be the only fly in the ointment. I believe your price and frequency info is correct. Frank in SBA has all the scoop on this as he has used it several times I believe. He will pop up here I am sure.

Miss Vickie, it will be between 10:15 am and 12:30 pm, and I think I will be fine. Seems that those times are positive and not "rush hour." Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you are going to the train? Should be fine at that time of day. And yes, you will be at the Amtrak end of the LAUPT. If you want to go into the main terminal you will need to walk the entire tunnel. If your train is ready you only need to walk to that track.
Of course, let us hope your flight is on time!

Gib and Miss Vicki--

You'll be fine as long as the flight is on-time. I've made the trip from LAUPT to LAX in as little as 20 minutes mid-day. They use the bus lane so there is very little traffic to deal with. It's a good system that seems to work well. The expansion of service to other locations from the original Van Nuys Flyaway seems to indicate there is hope for public transportation. Here in Santa Barbara ridership on our own local bus system has risen 38% in the past year.

Have a great trip!

Frank in cloudy and cool SBA
