Reports are "sketchy' at this time, but #59(26),City of New Orleans, has been involved in a collision with s waste hauler vehicle. Apparently one car has derailed (but let us note that news media has difficulty distinguishing between locomotives and cars); several "non-critical", as well as minor injuries:
It was just the Locomotive

Amtrak locomotive #7 derailed as well as the transition sleeper. Front end of the P-42 is "trashed" (pun intended). Here is a link to a photo of the front end:
You just hover your mouse over the small thumbnails at the bottom and you will find the picture of the train. I would post the photo here, but.........

Here's a link from the Jackson, MS newspaper if anyone is interested in a little more detail -
I find the comments at the bottom ("Hellooooo, IT'S A TRAIN TRACK......") as interesting as the article itself. My feeling is that most people, including the Waste Management crew apparantly, take their safety when crossing railroad tracks for granted and don't take the neccessary precaution. More bluntly, in this case it wasn't the Amtrak train that was not where it would normally be expected to be.
