Does anyone know of the progress on the new St. Louis Gateway Transportation Center? The last online article I read indicated it was expected to open in May. The old amshack was in bad shape the last time I was there.
Just curious if the new one is open since I will be traveling to St. Louis next month.

Things are looking good in St. Louis.
First, the Amshack is closed. Amtrak is using a new 'temporary' station made of cinderblock and brick about 100 yards west of where the Amshack was located.
A new intermodal station which Amtrak will share with Greyhound and the light rail is nearing completion. Amtrak passengers will take a stairway or escalator from the train platform up to a concourse walkway which then takes them over to the new station. One of these stairways will be (or might already be) in place of where the old Amshack was.
The new brick and mortar 'temporary' station will be used as Amtrak's St. Louis crew base when the new station opens. Here is a link with a picture of the new 'temporary' st. louis depot

Thanks guys... I'll be in St. Louis in a couple weeks and will check on the progress. I plan on posting photos of my journey on my website when internet connection is possible. Andy

Here is an article about the new 'Gateway Station'. The pictures show a light rail train visible through the windows of this new station, the entrance to the new station, and what appears to be the Greyhound boarding gates.

Thanks David, That is actually the most recent article I could find. It just states that it will open in a "few months".
I guess I'll find out soon enough.... Andy

Same here.
Sounds like it's coming very soon but it's too early for me to plan a trip to St. Louis just to see it yet.

I just traveled through St. Louis and found that the new Station (Gateway Transportation Center) is not yet open. It is still under construction. According to one of the station attendants, they don't expect to move in til August. When I was there June 11, they were pouring concrete for the station platforms.

I still don't know what to think of the new station. Its pretty unconventional and I get the feeling its going to lose a lot of luster quickly(thats just how things work in downtown St. Louis).
The station was supposed to have a restaurant in it but from what I've seen, the body of the station is small. It looks like a daddy longlegs. You got legs going everywhere, one to the buses and the other to trains, and then you got this small body(the waiting area). And its somehow supposed to fit train and bus passengers in it. The old bus station used to really pack em in. That place will be hoppin' when trains arrive. I really haven't gotten a great look at the new station, though. I just rode by it on the Metrolink a week or two ago on my way to a Cardinals game. Maybe A Meyer can correct me if I saw wrong.
I am happy to have a new station, though. But I'm really going to miss the Amshack.

UncleBuck, I can't say much for what it will be like inside. I only walked around the outside of it. I will be back there next week and may have time to "snoop" around a little more.
Since I don't live in the area and will only visit it a few times a year when I visit family, my perspective may be different than a local.
I do like the idea that the various modes of transportation could be connected in a small and covered area, especially during times of bad weather.
I hope the interior of the station has some amenities which will make it pleasant to the travelers it serves.
