Why does Amtrak keep these locomotives (112-122) exlusively in the LAX pool and not rotate them like they do almost every where else?

Just a guess Mr. Canuck; they are equipped with AT&SF Automatic Train Stop system. Now that 3-4 are running again "All the way on Santa Fe" (an actual slogan), I'll keep eyes peeled to see if any such are in consist I happen to observe.

Not a bad guess, but I think all P42's are ATS equipped. They just need the shoe attached to work.

For some consists I've written down over the past few years, I've noticed several P42s on the point of the Chief not in the 112-122 pool. These include: 38, 49, 51, 100, 130, 135, 147, and 150. And pool locos 115, and 119.

Surprising to me is that even Santa Fe 3751 can still wear an ATS shoe. I'm not sure if it's still the original Santa Fe equipment on board or if it's new, but here's an interesting picture:

If it is going to run on the San Diego line, it has to have it.

Right now the LAX pool locomotives are all over the place. The Coast Starlight in recent weeks has had several Chicago based units on it. On another website, someone said that this is because of the midwest floods and it sorta messed up the way things normally operate.
