In updating my railroad maps, I am redoing the San Joaquin route now (OKJ-BFD), which I have not ridden for several years. IIRC, wasn't Riverbank a San Joaquin stop many years ago? The last go-around in my maps (4-5 years ago) does not show it, but shows the present Modesto stop. If Riverbank was a scheduled San Joaquin stop, did the train also stop at Modesto then, or did Modesto replace the Riverbank stop?

Does anyone remember when the stop changed from Riverbank to Modesto (if in fact it DID change)?

Thanks, gibg -- I actually saw that later in the day yesterday, after I had already posted my question.

Maybe someone here can answer my Modesto question. The City of Modesto campaigned Amtrak to move the SJ to the SP/UP tracks since the former SP station is in downtown Modesto and the current Amtrak station is on the edge of town.

In fact, I heard that the reason the platform at Modesto is so deep, that is, so far from the station is that the tracks are actually outside the city limits and because of funding, the city-built depot had to be inside the city limits, thus the wide open spaces on the platform.

Anyone confirm this?
