Merry Christmas to all. And with political correctness, may all have a happy Hanukkah, a marvelous Makar Sankranti, a blissful Bodhi Day, a bountiful Boxing Day, and a creative Kwanzaa. Although there was a piece in the paper about Kwanzaa fading, as the "black power" residue from the 60's ages away.

Santa Barbara? Cold?????
Didn't think that was possible, Frank! Mind you, it did rain once when I was there.
Happy 2010 to all of you
ps: I've met Mr Toy. who lives 5,000 miles away in person but never Geoff who is only 50 miles up the line! We'll have to put that right one day

That message was sent from Nashville, TN -- BNA (Berry Field NAshville) -- and it was cold! I suspect it's colder today.
I'm back in SBA, though, where it's sunny and warm. I think the Tournament of Roses and the Rose Bowl Game will, once again, have spectacular weather!

It is raining, today, here in Northern Calif. I hope Frank is correct and it is sunny, down south, for the Rose Bowl Game.
I see that most major college football teams (at least 8 out of 10 in the Pac 10) go to some sort of bowl game. It seems, to me, that bowl games are becoming kind of meaningless. When I was a boy, there were only 4...the Orange Bowl, Sugar Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and Rose Bowl.
Anyway, I hope all of your Amtrak journeys, this coming year, are pleasant and have a great New Year.

The dozen or so here who know me face to face would figure I'm hardly the kind who would sleep out on a city sidewalk...but I once did on Colorado Ave in Pasadena. The date was Jan 1 1964 and Illinois, back in days of Butkus and Grabowski, made an appearance at the Rose Bowl.
One of these "once in a lifetime' experiences.
We should note the "roughing it' was sandwiched between Golden State out, City return - Pullman, of course.

Have only seen you in photos, Mr. Norman, but I sstill have a hard time seeing you sleeping on Colorado Blvd. on New Year's Eve, even if Illinois was playing in the Rose Bowl.
I think I was there that night as well. Did the overnight thing about three times and decided it was a "once in a life time experience" and I had had more than my share.
On Jan 2, 1984 my son marched in the Rose Parade with his high school band (playing the bagpipes) and we purchased bleacher seats for the occasion. Everyone else was in Orange and Blue andd shouted "I-L-L" to the crowd across the street who shouted back "I-N-I." For this son of a Purdue grad, it was almost unbearable.

I think that is a very WISE saying that you posted about the more you give the more you receive. That does give me something to think about (CHEW ON LOLOL!! ) as I begin 2010

Happy New Year from Frigid La Plata where it was minus 1 when I was out shooting the Southwest Chief running ten minutes early. Got pictures of it in three different places, Indiana Ave west of town, Brown Street waiting on time and at Santa Fe Lake heading east for Chicago.
I will be heading back to warm Southern California tomorrow night {Tuesday!}.
