The Amtrak Guest Rewards website does not make it clear how many points are required for travel on the Auto Train. How many points would be needed for one person in a roomette, with a standard vehicle ? Thanks.

Because Auto Train ridership is so seasonal, it may vary greatly based on dates of travel. Thus, it may require a phone call with specific dates to get an answer. Just my speculation...

Russ, be it assured that Amtrak will want "heap big wampum' of reward points for an AT journey.
GBN (holder of 8142 AGR points at present; and will likely be "six feet somewhere' before there ever is enough points to redeem on an Auto Train journey)

They show a 10,000 point supplement for a car, but I am not clear if the Auto Train is considered a one zone, or a two zone trip. I think I will have nearly enough points to do this trip as I am getting a 10,000 point bonus from Energy Plus to add to my current 12,500 point total. I can buy any extra points needed from Amtrak. I think they charge $ 13.75 for each 500 points.

And what doth CL&P think about your "point chasing", Russ?

I have traveled Auto Train several times using Guest Rewards points. Each way in a roomette requires 15,000 points for the room plus 10,000 points for a car. You can not choose to pay for the room with points and cash for the car or vice versa - it's either all points or all cash.
I have traveled with my family - 6 people - in 2 Bedrooms with a minivan. Total was 55,000 each way - 2 x 20,000 for the rooms, 1 x 15,000 for the van.
Try to get the equivalent on airline frequent flyer miles!
