I'll be riding the sleeper on the LSL from Boston to Chicago in August. I understand from another discussion board that passengers have dinner in the diner after Albany. Does the Boston sleeper attendant provide reservations before reaching Albany or do those passengers have to fend for themselves and risk eating at 9:00pm?

Our best recollection from our 2004 and 2008 excursions on the Late To Be Sure Limited is that the folks from Gotham start dinner enroute to Albany allowing us Colonials from The Hub to dine at a decent hour west of the Empire State Capital. The Dining Car staff is also aware of the number of sleeper passengers anticipated and allow for that when setting up dinner schedules. That said, it's pretty much up to the whims of the Dining Car staff. Bon Apetit! Best regards, Rodger

The bride was reading over my shoulder and HER recollection is on both occasions the Boston segment passengers were seated immediately up boarding and served on departure from Albany. Far be it from me to argue with her pronouncements. That's part of the reason we've been happily married for nearly half a century. Best regards,(again) Rodger

I can recall a 2006 trip NYP-CHI on #49 (there were still through cars from 449 interchanged at ALB), where it was decreed that NY passengers would eat shortly after leaving NY and be out of the car by Albany so that they could feed the Boston passengers. This did not set well with me as I had just had a rather hefty Lunch at St Barts with my two nephews, so with stern admonishments that "there may not be any food left for you, Sir" still in mind, I ate somewhere between Schenectady and Utica (and had the steak I wanted).
Oh well, not the first time the comment 'the railroad runs for the convenience of the Operating Department" has been heard in this life.

On #448 at dinner time, passengers in the Boston Sleeper were offered a limited (2 I believe) choice of hot dinner entrees, which were served in one half of the Lounge car, set-up utilizing the normal dining car tablecloths, blue cloth napkins and silverware.
Westbound on #449, sleeper passengers ate dinner in the regular full diner after leaving Albany.

Good info GBN and Henry. That seems to nail it down. My plan is to try to walk back to the diner (or adjacent lounge car) during the stop at Albany to cut down the long walk through all the coaches. It won't matter after dinner as we will need to walk off the meal.
