We are starting to plan next year's holiday which will include Atlanta and possibly New York and New Orleans. Two questions: is the Buckhead MARTA station in Atlanta anywhere near the Amtrak station? Secondly, if we returned to Atlanta from New Orleans on the Crescent what are the chances of being able to have dinner without travelling sleeper class? We will be travelling on the 18th of July. As it is a 12 hour plus journey I am quite tempted to book a Roomette in any case. If we did not like New York so much it would be more logical for the railway experience to fly to Chicago and travel on the City of New Orleans and then on to Atlanta on the Crescent but we still have many things to see and savour in new York. We shall probably be returning to Britain from Atlanta. Suggestions will be greatfully received.

Easiest way to access MARTA from the Atlanta Amtrak Station is to catch the MARTA Bus to/from the Arts Center Station.
It's a short bus 6-8 minute bus ride and I think it's the 110 bus. It picks up passengers almost in front of the Amtrak station. You have to cross the little side street to your left but you do not need to cross Peachtree Street to get the inbound bus.
Coming from the Arts Center MARTA, you will be let off across Peachtree Street from the train station.
