The reverse side of Canada’s new polymer plastic $10 Bill features The Canadian superimposed over a VIA route map. It’s an icon and hopefully this signals the government sees it that way. The Canadian, in the future maybe privately operated but will probably be around for years to come.

Nice.

I may need to get my hands on one of these as a collector's item.

I'd like one of these as well. Does anyone know how an American can get one of these? Do you order one at your local bank? I have no idea where to start (besides going to Canada, of course!).

They won’t be in full circulation until November.

My bank here will get me US currency.......perhaps yours will get you CDN but you risk the chance of getting one of the old $10s until all are withdrawn and that could take a couple of years.

So, all you Canadians, how about setting up a little cottage industry, eh?

Sell the mint condition Canadian $10 bills to Americans for, say, $25 each. The profit could buy you lots of Molson's, eh?

I wonder if there would be anything illegal about that.

I don't know about the Canadian Plastic $10 bill..I think I would rather have the VIA logo on a Canadian Maple Leaf gold coin. It's worth around $1471 American.

I think one Canadian gold leaf would be worth around 850 cans of Molson beer. Better yet, 850 bottles of Labatt Blue.

What about the Canadian Loonie? It that still around? A number of years ago, at the Kamloops stopever on the Rocky Mountaineer, our motel had a Coke machine which took Loonies..had no idea what that was.

Yes, the Loonie is still around. It replaced the dollar bill in 1987 and is named for the Loon engraved on it. There’s also a Toonie which replaced the $2. bill. And just three months ago the penny was phased out. Prices are now rounded up or down to the closest nickel. Say something costs $2.72.......you would pay $2.70. If it’s $2.73......you pay $2.75.

Thanks for the beer reminder......Have to run into the NSLC and pick up a two-four of Blue for the hockey game tonight!
