Maybe Amtrak could send its on-board service crews to this school.

Interesting, Mr. Kisor; I read that article this morning from a 'table with a view' and completed it just brfore friends showed up.

Can't think of how I would ever have reason to fly Aeroflot; Ms. Sojourner will rent an auto on one of her journeys before I have reason to travel overseas again (many times in the past, be it assured; but 'past is past').

I considered using Aeroflot in the 1980s. European-based tourists who bought tickets with hard currency could find incredible deals to any Aeroflot station outside of Europe. I remember exploring a Paris-Moscow-India itinerary that included a 2 day stopover in Moscow that seemed almost free.

I frequently drive by the Boeing Renton plant that assembles 737s and the Aeroflot livery on a brand-new 737 is absolutely gorgeous. If you look carefully, you might notice that the colors are pretty close to what we see on many of Amtrak's locomotives, but I think Aeroflot would win first prize in a beauty contest.

Vincent, interesting to learn that Aeroflot is now 'buying West'; presumably Airbus as well.

In the past, I guess the IL's and TU's scared too many passengers that had a choice of air carriers.

Have been pricing airline tickets in recent days and a Singapore Airlines flight from JFK to Frankfurt, Germany has caught my eye.

Anyone with any experience (or warnings) flying with Singapore Airlines?

Singapore Airlines are regularly considered one of the betters ones up there. I've been on a few flights with them (LHR-SIN-MNL round trip, plus a couple of shorter flights), including the A380, and found it a most pleasant experience. Having said that, I don't know what the crew would be like on a leg outside of Asia.

Singapore takes much pride in everything they do, and there is a huge "or else" component when things when someone does not do right as they see right. I would suspect that you would find that all would work properly and be done properly on a Singapore Airlines flight. I have done quite a bit of flying into and out of Asia and around within it, but only once in the last 6 years, the rest between then and 23 years ago.

I've flown with Asiana, Korean Air, Air China, China Eastern and China Southern and never encountered a rude, surly, incompetent or unprofessional crew member on any. All within the last 15 years. Sadly cannot say the same about some US- based carriers. Some (all?) of the Asian carriers enforce an "overweight" policy as well for their Flight Attendants.

Most of the Asian, and probably airlines from other parts of the world as well, have and enforce appearance policies that would not be legal under US law. There are these provisions for age discrimination, etc. that get in the way.

Oh well; here comes another Airliners Net topic, but since so many here take 'the plane to the train' these topics are on topic around here.

Gotta say, since the Ruskis always say they invented everything, why don't they make a passenger version of whatever that Antonov monster they have so they can have something that would make an A-380 look like a Cessna 402.

Speaking of the 380, Smithsonian Channel has a propaganda show for such that someone posted at Youtube - and improperly labeled it from Discovery:

If you want to watch the show on the bigger screen, it is now available at Comcast On-Demand.

Finally, regarding the 402, I flew one KBOS-KACK; boarding, some lady behind me was saying 'gee this is small'. I remarked 'oh well, I've flown in a DeHaviland Twin Otter in this life'. Well, the pilot heard me and he smilingly says 'Twin Otter, that's big plane'.
