Let us briefly take respite from the joys and pains of Amtrak for a look at Railroad Man's Magazine. . This was a pulp magazine that ran from October 1909 to April 1919 and was full of railroading stories for hairy-chested males. (There is a new online archive of pulps of all kinds, and this is one of them.) Very amusing.

Mr. Kidor, the successor to that magazine was 'Railroad', which, unlike TRAINS, always presented the industry from the eyes of the Agreement 'workingman'.

'Railroad' was absorbed by Carstens and now has been integrated into 'Railfan', which is a publication that is not really aligned with my present day railroad industry interests.

I subscribe to "Railfan and Railroad" magazine and have found, from time to time, interesting tidbits of information on both freight and passenger trains.

In the November issue, there was a brief article on the expansion of the Hiawatha service by adding 3 new express trains.

Also, a proposal to add a 2nd Empire Builder train from Chicago to St. Cloud, MN. Some think that may not happen due to freight train schedule constraints. Here is info from the internet:
