A snow storm has blocked the southbound Coast Starlight near Oakridge OR. There are 183 people on the train and they have been snowbound for over 24 hours already. Fortunately there is plenty of food for the passengers and the HEP is still functioning, so everyone appears to be safe.

A passenger who was in contact with news media reported that:
quote:
...train staff have remained "great, very professional" and morale among passengers has been good.
It appears that Amtrak (and UP) are doing their best to handle a challenging situation. The train is expected back in Eugene sometime on Tuesday.

The train hit a tree that fell on the track.

Also, the Calif. Zephyr couldn't make it through the Sierras:

We are having what could be a record rainfall in Sonoma County. They are kayaking in the streets in some of the small towns west of me.

I guess the drought is, well, a "non-issue".

I hope the drought is over. The flooding is no fun, but if there is excessive growth of grasslands and foliage, in the wake, I am more concerned about forest fires this summer.

I was trying to surf the internet to see if the Coast Starlight and the Calif. Zephyr are up and running. I can't find much. Anyone know?
