Eventually, I may attempt to produce some maps of VIA routes. Back in 1999 (I know -- 20 years ago), the Canadian headed north from Toronto Union Station to a junction which I don't remember the name of, then backed down to a different CN line, then switched to a different route heading north toward Washago and Parry Sound. Does anyone know the name of that junction or where specifically it is? I am trying to coordinate my trip DVD's with AMTRAK and VIA maps.

Thanks!

Here you go!....

I made this map to go along with a trip report about 15 years ago but the Canadian's route 'loop' through Toronto is still basically the same.

Eastbound it comes down CN's Bala Subdivision to Union Station. Continues west on the Oakville Sub. to the TMC (Toronto Maintenance Centre) for servicing.....then backs-ups to Union Station for loading. It then continues west (timetable north) up the Newmarket Subdivision to 'Snider'. There was originally a 'Diamond Crossing' here but it's been replaced with a 'Flyover' . Just across the flyover it stops and backs-up onto CN's York Sub......then continues forward on the York across northern Toronto until it reaches Doncaster. It regains the Bala Subdivision again here and heads west (timetable north) to Vancouver.

'Snider' from Google Maps"

ghCBNS -- I forgot how to send private messages here, but I did want to ask you:

By any chance, is your first name "Glenn?" I met a fellow named Glenn on my 1999 trip on the Canadian -- he was traveling from Toronto to Jasper, and seemed very knowledgeable about the Canadian route and about VIA Rail Canada in general. Was that you? (we were traveling the week of Canada Day that year)
