I recently watched a documentary on the history of Grand Central Terminal. I thought it was interesting to learn of the number of non-train related businesses and structures once housed within the terminal building. A power station, tennis club, art gallery, and CBS TV news center were all there. Even a laundromat, limousine service using Packard cars, barber shop, and haberdashery.
Speaking of haberdasheries, another great NY institution has filed for bankruptcy, Brooks Brothers. I read that the first Brooks Brothers shop was established in 1818. I thought it was a misprint, but 1818 is correct. Just 12 years after the return of the Lewis and Clark expedition!

I was there a couple years ago. There is still plenty of shopping at GCT.
