I just went over to the TRAINS newswire. Great news with regard to the restoration and operation of the "Mark Twain Zephyr", a 1934 CB&Q streamliner trainset.
The PBS series, Great Scenic Rail Journeys, had a segment on the Wisconsin Great Northern Railroad, out of Trego, Wisconsin.
We will be bringing up "Injun Joe" #9903 later this week. If anyone is in Illinois or Wisconsin and wants to see the move between the St. Louis area and Northwest Wisconsin... we expect it to move sometime between Wednesday AM and Friday PM. Could happen all Wed & Thrs... will depend on how the DOT routes the semi and such. If anyone wants to get photos --- we will "live Tweet" its location if possible @MarkTwainZephyr on Twitter will be where you want to go. The route that makes the most sense will be I-55 to I-39 to I-94 to US 53, but we'll see what happens. If anyone visits the WGNRR and would like a tour, let me know. rtabern@railrangers.org

Any more details on this move - pictures - State Police/Patrol probably would need to close or restrict some highway movement - or maybe a private contractor for escort service.
Cars are wider than semi-trucks and the length greater than the 53 foot 18 wheel rigs. May even have weight restrictions.
Across the St. Croix river at Stillwater MN when the MN Zephyr dinner train was removed quite an effort to move the cars and engines on narrow local streets and highways. The old track along the St. Croix river from Hudson/Afton was terminated years ago. The extension only went as far as Bayport to the coal fired electric plant. Oh the ripped up rails of yesteryear now being used as recreational trails.

"Injun Joe" was named after a character in Twain's "Tom Sawyer". Accompanying cars were the "Becky Thatcher", "Tom Sawyer", and "Huck Finn".
I guess they could name the locomotive "Native American Joe".

Richard, there is a lot within Mr. Clemmons writings that lack "political correctness". It means nothing to you and I, as well as many others our age.
But evidently not the case with those younger than us. They have inherited the world; we are just serving out our time.

Mr. Norman - That is definitely something we are discussing internally at the WGNRR. I am not sure what will be decided, but know the ultimate decision will be up to our owner. More than likely it will be changed.
