With the Alameda Corridor about to come in Service. Does anyone think Metrolink will look at adding service to the Corridor or to another Line that will have Freight Service cut back on. Like the BNSF Harbor to LAX and Long Beach (or where a Passenger Train can come in close to Downtown Long Beach). I am interested to see any Metrolink will look at adding Service. I know Metrolink may not add anytime soon. But it would be interesting to see it. Specially to LAX.

GP25,

MTA does own the Harbor Sub (bought it several years ago) and leases it back to BNSF. But I think the route is too slow & roundabout for service.
I can't imagine the cities along the route allowing trains to move much faster than 25mph anyway, which would be way too slow.

Where did you get the idea that Metrolink would EVER get access to the Alameda Corridor. They certainly don't have the money to buy into it & why would they want to compete w/ the Blue Line which is only a couple of miles west of it. AS for LAX, that's served by the Green Line which can also be reached thru the Blue Line. The Blue & Green lines cost $1.35($1.60w/transfer). Metrolink would cost $4.00-9.50. Doesn't take much to figure which way people will travel to Long Beach or LAX.

I suppose Metrolink could connect (transfer) with the Green Line at the Redondo terminal and extend south along the Harbor Sub to maybe San Pedro. But that sure sounds like dreaming at this stage.

Maybe the UP (LA&SL) route to the harbor would work? It is fast track, though it does go through industrial areas.

Realistically, I see Metrolink expanding to Palm Springs or Redlands or Perris long before it ever gets to the South Bay.
