It's happened again - some moron tried to beat a Metrolink to the Grand Ave. crossing in Glendale. He and his car are now toast. Fortunately, the engine and cars did not derail and there was only one minor injury aboard. Of course, tonight on the news they'll proclaim things like "deadly stretch of track" and "the train was moving at 79 mph!", as if the train or the intersection were at fault.
Sometimes I think these pea-brained drivers are from another planet.

Don't know how you put an end to this (careless and suicidal behavior).
It sure does not get sympathy from the riders and other 'survivors'.

Simple solution..but not cheap...
Set the crossing gate switches further from the crossing, and use something other than wood or plastic for the arms, (like aluminum, steel, etc.)

Most Crossing gate arms are Aluminum. I have seen few Fiberglass ones in the past though. the reason that gates have to be light in weight is so they will not burn out the mechinism motor when it brings the gate back up
