Hi everybody, as you can tell by my user name, I'm a big fan of Metra MP36PH-3 number 409, as I rode its first trip from Chicago to Elgin, on the 4:50 PM train out of Chicago, and arived at Big Timber at 6:01 PM. I'm a blind railfan, using screan reading software to read the screans. I also write travelogues of my trips on both Amtrak and Metra. When at Big Timber station, I was able to take recordings of the MP36 locomotives, including 2 blows on the K5LA horn, and the bell. Just a quick question.... In all my railroading years(well...all 18 of them) I am aware of F40PH's, F40PHM-2's, FF40PH-2's, F40C's, the E- 8's and 9's and a few switchers; not to mention the new units that are starting to arrive. Never have I encountered an MP36PH-3! do you by any chance have a picture or website containing any information on this engine? any help would be appriciated...

The Metra MP36PH-3S is the new engine that Metra has received starting in early 2003. They have been assigned to the Milwaukee Road and BNSF lines. Unfortunately, none are being assigned to the Union Pacific lines (I live along the UP West) apparently because of bridge weight restrictions (according to Trains magazine).
Try a simple Google search for Metra and "MP36PH", it should give you a number of pages with descriptions and photos of the new engine. It is quite cool, if I do say so myself.
