Is this route still in operation? The 1 round-trip a day schedule is on the VIA website.

I rode the E&N Railiner from Victoria to Nanaimo last month (April 12). It was suspended north of Nanaimo due to a trestle fire the week before BUT the train did resume it's full route less than two weeks after I was there.

My post titled "A Canadian Sampler" talks about my RDC ride and the trip to Winnipeg on VIA #2 the following day. I think it's on the Amtrak category (which was Amtrak & VIA when I posted it!).

I was surprised by how overgrown the R-O-W was in some places and thought it remarkable that this train has survived as long as it has.

As of Jan. 21, the E&N is operating both freight and Passenger service on the Victoria Subdivision. The line to Port Alberni has been railbanked for future use.

ENR GP38 3809 in on the turntable in Victoria dropping off VIA 6148 after it hit a gravel truck up north, 6148 has since been repaired.
