So it's announced that VIA Rail's only two LD trains, the Canadian and the Ocean, are cancelled until fall due to the coronavirus. It's understood the Canadian serves mainly the tourist industry, the Ocean less so. But with people shuttered in their homes, it makes sense to withdraw them for now. When (if) they are restored, I should book a trip.

Right now most provinces have domestic/inter-provincial travel restrictions at their borders that would make it difficult for any travellers on a transcontinental train. For example..... Any non essential travellers crossing the New Brunswick/Quebec Border (on the route of the Ocean) and also between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia has to self-isolate for 14 days one they cross that border between provinces. It seems to have worked. New Brunswick has only 120 confirmed Corvid cases total and no deaths. 118 have now recovered.

And this makes sense. Why would anyone want to be travelling now anyway. I can see the number of trains increasing/returning for corridor point to point journeys but who is going to want to ride VIA's Canadian or Ocean when you will spend your time in your accommodations. Who would be comfortable riding in the dome or even taking a meal in the dining car. These are trains for socializing!

Rocky Mountain Railtours says they still have a schedule for the 2020 season but are delaying the start of the season until July.
Since their trains also cross provincial lines, any bets they do anything this year?

"Can't hsppen down here", Mr. Hadfield, as there is a constitutional restraint regarding interstate commerce.

But "they can slow 'em down" a bit:

However, it appears lower jurisdictions can do so, or at least "get away with it" until a higher one gives them a "spanky":
