LA Area: Evidently there was a derailment (BNSF?) in the vicinity of Redondo Jct. this morning. Virtually all Amtrak traffic in and out of LA Union Station was delayed.
#772, which is scheduled out at 9:40, did not leave until 11:35. It then went out over UP (on the east side of the LA River) and then headed down the San Pedro Branch, across the BNSF at Hobart, and then switched to the BNSF via the southeast quadrant connector track. From that point on it was on its normal route, but about 2.5 hours late. #772 was terminated at Oceanside (at about 3:10. All passengers continuing south had to detrain and get on #574, which came by about 10 minutes later.
Meanwhile, #772 became #779 (Northbound), and departed Oceanside about 3:15pm.
Later that afternoon, #581 departed Oceanside at 3:35 (scheduled 2:23) and reversed the Hobart area crossover move. It arrived at LAUS at about 6:00 (scheduled 4:15).
Also observed was the northbound Coast Starlight departing LA around 11:45, with an Amtrak Calif engine and AMTK 114/AMTK 118.
