Hello I from Holland planning a vacation to the USA, and wil travel by car from New York to Cleveland and Los Angeles-SanDiego-Las Vegas.(wiht Amtrak from Denver to Los Angels) I'm want to visit some train museums and running steamtrains, there is a lot on the internet but i want to ask wat are hot spot, is there somthing wat you think that I MOST SEE (in your mening) There is a lot on the internet but i looking for people who been visit the place (or a frend of him/her )

Steamtown in Scranton, pennsylvania is a must see if it is close to you planned route. You can find Steamtown's website through the US national park service website(Steamtown is part of the national park system). Also in Jamestown, California south of Yosemite National Park there is a place called Jamestown/Railtown 1894 that has excursions and friendly staff who will give you a ride in the cab if you come when there isn't anyone else around. They have a website but I don't remember what it is. I will try to find it for you and post it here.

The Colorado RR Museum located in Golden, CO, about 15 minutes west of Denver is very nice. Extensive library as well as narrow gauge and standard gauge exhibits. Well worth the time before you board Amtrak. Colorado RR Museum has a website you can check out as well. Enjoy !!

Thank for the replys Pennsylvania is not a part of mij route, but i staying in Califromia so i think that Jamestown is one option. I to fly to Denver and then with Amtrack to SF or LA so Denver is also one option.

I just joined and I realize it's WAY to late for your trip but anyone staying in Northern California should check out the WP museum at Portola Calif. Not so much spit and polish as a huge mass of rolling stock & engins that you can just wander through. There is a working restoration/repair shop which you can walk through and (for a few $$ more) you can drive a diesel electric around a 1 mile loop.
Great Museum and a must see.
Next time I'm there, I'll post some photos. It terms of quantity of (mostly) unrestored cars, it can't be beat.
