Has anyone here successfully replaced the original E60CP motor made by bachmann, with a better mechanism such as one made by Atlas, Walthers or Athearn.
I've gotten feedback a few years ago on how to do this but each attempt was a failure. Some suggestion even required the alteration of the shell (which is a no no, lol).
Someone even mentioned that one of the Model Railroading magazines (Railroad Modeling I think it is) has an article on how to do this, but it was issued years ago. If anyone here has that article is it possible that it can be scanned and posted some way. If anyone has link to a website that describes the procedure that would be great too.
What type of Bachmann locomotive are you talking about? I don't know of anyway to replace a Bachmann motor with another motor in the stock Bachmann model. What has been done is to use an Athearn chassis under the Bachmann shell. The Bachmann F unit will fit the Athearn f-7 frame with minor modifications to the inside of the shell. The f40ph can be made to fit the Athearn gp40 chassis I think.

Bachmann came out with the E60 in the late 70's early 80's I think. This is the model that preceeded the GK/Walthers model. So this locomoitive uses powered trucks and not a can motor. I would like to get a can motor in there some way but I can't seem to get it all to come together, let alone find one that will fit on the original chassis and under the hood. The part that is even more challenging is getting to trucks to rest on the chassis and getting them to freely.
