a New Haven EP-5 in HO scale ? Does anyone make ( or previously made ) them ?

Overland models imported a Brass Model just last year. Where you would find it though is information I dont have. I would start by checking with Caboose Hobbies of Denver CO. They have a large Brass Inventory.

I was only able to get 3 loco & 2 box car photos to come up.

Hmmmm .... I was only able to get the switcher to come up for engines , and a gondola , a crane , a flat car , a trailiner trailer and 2 box cars ... Anyone else had better luck with the New Haven Terminal site ? I'de REALLY like to get a look at that EP-5 ( or even the PA-1 )!!! Originally I said I didn't care if the loco's I was purchasing actually ran on the NH ... I have decided against that now , and I want to keep my layout ( is prototypical , the word ?? ) true to what ran on the NH ... So the GG1 is out , but , I would love to get a nicely detailed EP-5 !!! My only concern is the one one that NH Terminal site ( the ONLY one I can find ) , has an Athearn drive ... How good of quality and how dependable are these drives ?? $199.00 for an Athearn drive seems quite pricey , doesn't it ? Thanks again , Bryan.

Athearn drives are a very dependable and rugged drive that can take a modest amount of abuse and still function well. I highly reccomend them to newcomers to the hobby. However I can inform you that $199.00 for an Athearn PA-1 is outragouse and I would not conduct business with that out fit as they list in the Athearn Catalog for around $45.00. I am sure if you do some bargan hunting you can find them as low as $25.00.

Hey Challenger ... The $199 I was refering to was for a New Haven EP-5 with the Athearn drive... ( this is the ONLY EP-5 I can locate , other than brass and that seems to come only in O gauge I beleive ) I imagine MOST of the money is PROBABLY for the EP-5 shell , but in THAT price range , it STILL seems awful pricey , doesn't it ? Oh OK. I misunderstood. Then Yes, I would assume it would be for the EP-5 tooling accounting for most of the price as EP-5s are kind of a special model that applies to New Haven and Penn Central Fans (New Haven was part of the Penn Central Merger)and therefore limited market potential. An Athearn drive is considered one of the best drived on the market as it is very smooth running but rugged at the same time. The only question I would have left that I think you shouild ask is "What does it got for a Motor?"

Good question , Challenger !! I will have to contact New Haven Terminal and ask them this , and then I will post reply on this site for opinions !! They do have the same one ( EP-5 ) in kit form for $139 ( $60 savings ) this MAY be the way to go !!! BTW , GREAT site here , VERY INFORMATIVE ( I hope you don't get sick of my newbie questions ) and once again , as ALWAYS , thanks for the replies !! Bryan.

I have no problem answering newbie questions. Questions are what make this forum work. The wise person that was my band teacher in high school once told me, "The only stupid question is one that isn't asked."
This is especially true in Model Railroading where there are so many chioces to choose from that picking a place to start is a daunting task. I started replying to this forum becasue when I started quality information from individuals that were replying was awful and their attitude towards newcomers was very negative.
I am much happier that more experience hobbiests have found this site and are employing it to its full advantage.
