On my layout, I can run a 3-car Superliner passenger train fine, yet if I add a 4th car in the middle, my trains uncouple quite often. The couplers on the 4th car are set at the same height as the others and mounted the same way. What could be the problem?

A weakening of the coupler? Are they those AccuMate ones or different?

Sometimes on any coupler it begins to bend out of shape and let the others slide off. If it is consistently the same coupler breaking, try moving it to the end of the train

jb - no I don't believe the couplers are "weak." They are standard Kadee no. 46 couplers, and they don't "break." The cars simply uncouple for no apparent reason -- cars at the front or back don't uncouple; just the car in the middle.
