Does anyone know of some decent software which I can buy which will allow me to make my own custom-designed signs for businesses, trackside structures, etc.? I have been using a program called "Logo Creator," but it is very clumsy to use, and you can only print one design per page.

You should be able to do this with any reasonable DTP program. For symbols you might want to look for some wingdings fonts or some clip art. If you want some billboards, try the billboards at dribbleglass They need a bit of re-alignment before using, but make people look twice.
