I've been modeling HO 'steam railroads' for over 50 years now, but would like to have a small trolley line for 'background'. Have several cars w/o power which must have poles added. Available are Bowser ($10) 'operating trolley pole' and Precision Scale for $7.50. Question: Are both of these complete with the spring(s) needed to hold pole against the wire? I note Precision Scale also has 'bushings' and 'springs' in the Walthers catalog so maybe the $7.50 isn't such a bargain after all! Maybe I'll get hold of some brass rod plus some 'craft store' springs, and make my own trolley poles!

It looks like the Bachman 'Brill' trolleys would make inexpensive ($15 at local train meets) power sources for a few of my 'bodies'. But they come without 'live' poles!

What say you, trolley modelers?

Do a google search for "HO trolley poles" > I found more than 5000 entries.
