i have just purchased the kato p42 and it appears to run a little jerky with lots of flickering light. my track and power are fine as have no other probs with other motive power. any ideas would b appreciated. many thanx

But I do have a question. Did you get the phase V P42? If so, does the dark blue paint on the roof and nose seem to be the wrong color?
I've noticed in pictures and ads that it seems to be a much lighter shade then the real color. Just wondering.

i did get phase 5 locos and the blue does seem a little lighter. the paint job however is just great. sharp and very well finished. the engines seem to be running in. the problem mentioned seems to have dissapeared for now. just a thought maybe the lighter shade was intentional so as it doesnt appear black under typical dark model railroad lighting???

Off topic, and just a quick warning: In the October 2003 issue of Model Railroader, Standard Hobby Supply advertises a Kato P42 Ph. V in HO scale (I repeat, HO!) for only about $75. This seemed like an excellent offer for an HO Kato of this model, so I ordered it. The box came a few days later, and I noticed it felt a little bit lightweight. I opened it to find an N scale unit. BIG printing error! I was disappointed, but I'll just get a refund. So, if you model HO and see a great deal on a Kato P42, DON'T ORDER IT!!! Posted by bnsf (Member # 1971) on :
just looked for the ad and found it. yep it says HO. to be honest i dont even think kato has done a HO model have they??

Yeah, I should have known that it was an Athearn/Walthers gig for the HO unit, but so many companies make so many things these days, I figured it was true.
