I’m looking for some information on CP’s Canadian from back in the ‘50s and ‘60s. I’m building a pair of scale dome cars for a friend. The models are 1:12 scale (yes, that means that the cars are 7’ long). I’m building a dome/observation (Park series) and a dome/coach/lounge (Skyline series).
My question is about the color of the seats in the domes and in the observation lounge. I’ve seen Rapido’s lovely HO scale models and all the seats in their domes, mid-train and observation, are a yellow tan. (I’m guessing that’s CP Prairie Gold, one of six colors used.)
But in all the CP advertising literature from the period, those seats are either red or blue. Admittedly, those are mostly renderings and therefore suspect as to color. But there are a few photographs too, all show red or blue seats (Empress Rose and Banff Blue).
I know there were two color schemes used in the CP dome cars. But I can’t find any description of those schemes. Does anyone out there know what colors were used in these cars as delivered? In this scale the interiors are very visible and I’d like to get the colors right.
Thanks.
Joe
