Since my SFSW is located in New Mexico, I thought it would be a good way to visually get the location across if most buildings were adobe/Santa Fe style . Since all of this needs to be scratch built, I am currently looking for plans/drawings of a roundhouse in N scale . Any help would be great!! Thanks and Happy Modeling!!

( ATSF, "HAINES, DAVID", ROUNDHOUSE, STRUCTURE, PROTOTYPE, NSCA )
Note: Thats N scale magazine.

Wayner Publications used to publish a "All Time Index" of articles published in the various model magazines and prototype magazines, including X-2200 South and National Railway Historical Society.

In it you can find the indication of articles that are associated with the topics. For example, under Construction, Structures, I see an example of the following

MR (for Model Railroader)
Feb
72, for 1972
Page 65

You should find a plan, or article for a freelance round house.

Sorry, as I have stated before, I have been out of the hobby for some 14 years or more. So my copy is the revised second edition from 1978. I would hazzard a guess that someone has a more current edition. I myself will check the web pages for more info. In any case, you should find one of the index's and put it to use. Of course, you will also have to find the older magazines. Dosen't the MNRA have a resource library?

Hope this helps. I am not familiar with any TP round house. I would imagine it would be a fire hazzard. Of course, some of the guys I have known over the years would try anything....

Well after building the Cornerstone turntable I suppose the Cornerstone roundhouse is out? From the Santa Fe pics it looks like a good possibility though. Ok for southwest flavor how apout one based on the Como roundhouse on the D&RGW ? It was a stone roundhouse with sort of a Mexican flavor. heres a photo of the rear side http://www.realwest-fairplay-colo.com/ click the picture link. hth....Mike

Thanks for the info guys!! Mike, I had not thought of the Como roundhouse in years...used to visit there once a year in the spring. May need to take that trip up again!! BTW, I started the basic walls and floor yesterday since the Super Bowl was such a blow-out (GO Ravens, even though Minnesota is my team !). The base walls and floor are constructed from foam core board. This will give the appearance of THICK adobe walls, with inset windows. I created the overall design from a compendium of roundhouse pics I have now seen. Will construct the interior roof supports this week and may use Durham's Water putty to finish the walls. Thanks again for the help, and Happy Modelling!!
