Does anyone know how standard N&W auxiliary water tenders were numbered? Were they assigned to a specific locomotive and therefore assigned that locomotive's road number? Or were they pooled and therefore numbered in a completely different sequence on the equipment rosters? Also, does the car number appear anywhere on the tender? From the photos that I've seen, nothing appears on the rear of the car, and I've never seen a front view of it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Bob... I'm not a hundred percent sure, but I'm thinking there were numbers on the rear of the tenders. I guess if no one comes up with the answer, you can check with the historical people. Richard
