Is anyone familar with the A.C.Gilbert Company trains. My dad passed away and we found some engines and cars and wonder if they are worth anything or collectible. Where can I find out more?

Although I do not know much about collectible trains, there are some places you can look. First, if you can get ahold of the last year or two of Rail Model Craftsman, they do a series on model trains from the very beginning (late 1800's!) on up. I am certain that they have mentioned A.C. Gilbert Co., but I don't remember which issue. You may also get ahold of them on line at: http://www.carstens.com Also try Classic Toy Trains at: http://www.classtrain.com
Something you should consider is the age and general shape of the models. It maybe something that if you could place pictures on the web (say at ebay) someone could appraise. There are also model railroad appraisers out there, but I don't know how they operate, or even how to contact them. I hope this helps somewhat, and I know others out on the forum can help! Good Luck! Tuffy: A.C.Gilbert took over manufacturing of American Flyer trains, somewhere around 1955. I remember my Dad, or should I say, Santa Claus, giving me A.C. Gilbert-American Flyer trains, for Christmas! These trains and related items, are worth whatever a loyal, (S-guage), Flyer collector is willing to pay! Check with your local hobby shops or read about American Flyer, in Model Railroading magazines. You can probably find info.@ your public library, under model railroading, toys-of the 1950's, etc. Whatever you decide, don't get in any hurry! I'm sure with a little time and exposure, you'll have people, bidding on the items you have. If it were me, I'd hang-on to those items, a few more years and then re-consider selling at a much higher price. Best yet, keep them for yourself or your, grand-kids!!
