I am looking for sound system for N scale ? Any clues ? Has anyone tried to install this before ....
Any help on this front is aapreciated .

OOOO, sound in N scale. Sounds neat. I don,t know about the availability of sound units for N scale as a locomotive mounted unit but there are several options. One would be to insall a layout mounted unit that moves the sound with the train from fixed points aroun the layout. I've seen and heard this used and it's very affective. One other is a boxcar or passenger car mounted sound unit. Yhere are several companies out there selling digital recorded chips which employ a variety of sounds,i.e. chuffs, whistles, horns, dynamic brakes etc. I think if you are modeling the modern era and have some high cube boxes on your roster they would probably work.
One company I've been particularly pleased with is Small Scale Railways at www.solarverse.com/ssryco. I have a couple of their units installed in HO boxcars and as soon as I can I'm going to buy some more of them.
Also, don't forget about the other sounds around the layout as well. People around stations, welders, livestock, water, etc.
all help increase the minds image of motion on the static parts of your layout. I'll see if I can come up with another couple of company names for you, Good luck

This is also getting a run on trainboard. there is a thread of 20+ there and most like the idea, so do I, but getting sound to scale, hard.

train horns that dont sound for 4 mins in scale is hard. crossing bells that dont ding for 5 mins etc... its not easy.

but if like me and your not that anal, and just wouldnt worry about it I think this stuff Scott mentioned is a winner.

if you do try it give us a run down on it.
