OK,
I have been doing lots of research regarding the ATSF in the mid to late 50s and have seen lots of Zebra stripe paint jobs. They ALL look white to me. I know that there was white and chromium silver. Anyone know if the silver came later than the late 50s, or was it restricted to a certain part of the country etc?? Happy Modeling!!

John,
I can't find the info source, so this is kind of from memory, but I believe the reflective chromium silver was actually an FRA requirement starting back in the late '40s around industrial switching areas where ther were a lot of grade crossings or "in street" rail traffic-'specially night traffic. Didn't really matter what RR it was, so many square feet per loco was required if they were used in this kind of area.
I'll keep looking to see if I can find the article.
Scott
