Hi Jesse,
I guess in my humble opinion, Spring/Summer works best for me. Some people like to model the winter season (Snow) but on the whole I would expect a nice bright summery type day.
Cheers friend.

Most people model either Spring or Summer. I think an Autumn scene would be a nice unique perspective. I tried snow one time about 25 years ago. I was very happy with it for a couple of months. But then it began to get dusty, and I could never keep it white again. Maybe there are new and better ways to model snow these days.

Most modelers model the summer time. How ever the few layouts I have seen set in early/to mid-autumn was truly nice looking layouts, the different colors of the trees (to me) really set these layouts apart from the normal summer time layouts. It would be worth thinking about. In the 50 years that I have been in the hobby I only saw 2 layouts set in winter the last one I saw was in Model Railroader, the frist I saw was 5 years ago both layouts did not have snow, just "dead" trees, both layouts (to me) look dead, that is to say no color, and (to me)depressing.

That is really your choice, like what era and railroad you want to model. Each of us has our own choices. If you try to model something to please others you will never be able to say "I did this by myself because this what I wanted." What do you want to see in YOUR "mind's eye"???

Thirdrail:long last some-one has said what I thought for years. But I still like to answer questions and give my views. After all this is what this hobby is about why else would we buy Model Railroader,RailRoad Model Craftman and all the others if not for the views of others?

Why not do spring on one side of a mountain and fall on the other side? Who says the whole railroad has to be modeled in one season.
