hello,
i was just wondering what is the difference between the origional engines and ones with the -2. ex. GP 38 and the GP 38-2,is there a clear visable difference ? I wanted to re-paint several engines but the schemes were only put on engines like that SD-40;GP38;GP40 and athearn only makes the SD40-2;GP 38-2 etc. If there is a difference,is it something that i can easily cut off or just add? thank you for taking the time to read this.

Most of the differences are internal. Take the GP38, for example. About the only visual difference on the outside is a water level sight glass, on the long hood, on the engineer's side. Most of the differences were electrical and therefore internal. If you want to make a GP38 into a GP38-2, just make the proper size/shape hole in the hood. To go the other way, just fill-in the hole.
