Bowser has recently came out with an upgrade kit to bring the Bachmann GS4 Daylight up to current standards. The Kit Comes with a new frame, motor, drivers, and siderods. To my knowledge it is an assembled unit from the factory and you just bolt it up to the Bachmann superstructure and add the tender. If you would like to wait a while, I have a man in the hole at Bachmann, who says that the GS4 will be upgraded and re-released in the Spectrum line in a year or so.

Dont bother with the Bowser rebuild. I did one for the old Bachman J and it never looked right. It was also dificult to get it to ron smoothly, and it was noisy. Bachman is redoing thr GS4 in the spectrim line , so I would just wait.....Mike

What were the specific problems with your rebuild kit. I have one GS4 I am painting for American Freedom Train. I bought it for a bargan ($25) because the frame, Wheel pilot/trailing truck assembly was missing. I kind of think it a waste to buy a whole new locomotive just for a set of parts that are available separatly. Also, would you reccomend replacing the stock Bowser Motor with one by Alco Products that is designed to fit? An enumeration of your problems would be helpful.
