I am kind of new to this to this forum, but here goes. I have not seen much chatter about the new tourist train planned on running from Alamosa, CO to La Veta, CO. The trip will run from Alamosa, leaving around 9 AM, traveling over La Veta Pass on the old D&RGW line. The train will arrive in La Veta about noon and leave a half an hour later to return to Alamosa by 4 or 5 PM. The cost is supposed to be in the neighborhood of $40 RT.

This would be the first scheduled passenger train over this line since 1953. Should be a beautiful trip which includes a couple of tunnels and 3% grade. I think the service is to start in May and continue into September.

I really hope this pans out, it could be the start of something great.

Do you have a name of the service or a phone #? I am planning a trip to Durango so maybe I could include this one.

Go to: http://www.alamosatrain.com and click on the "Tickets and Schedules" link. That's about all the information available at this time. The trips are scheduled to begin May 24.
