Rode 449/49 (7) and 5(8) SPG-CHI-Granby CO. Was supposed to ride to Glenwood but got off in Granby due to weather driving concerns to my final destination. Was just a few minutes behind schedule into Chicago with the engine 100 leading. Followed by meeting Mr. Norman for a walk through town and excellent lunch at Gage’s (thank you again Mr. Norman.) Boarded Zephyr and a relatively incident free ride to Denver (43 ME into Denver.) just a bit late into Granby due to snow slow orders climbing the front range. Overall a good trip. Nothing to complain about customer service wise - flexible meals on 49 were edible - traditional meals on 5 excellent. Will send some photos later.

Mr. Lord, I've filled in a few others active at this site about the "vagaries" of CUS. One year, I was able to sneak down below to show the massive caissons that anchor the Head House (whoops; Great Hall in Amtrakese). That I still had "a name or two to drop" such as the CUSCO General Manager, gave me confidence if challenged. "Ain't got that no more".

If they ever do move forward with the twenty or so story hotel proposed to rise over the Head House (and filling up the now gutted MILW General Office floors), the infrastructure is already there.

Wow, this hotel could even have "The Chairman's Suite" on the Eighth Floor. That's where it was complete with a sleeping and private dining rooms. I only saw it once during my eleven years with the MILW.

Lordsigma,
I'd be interested in your Granby experience. I gather that you rented a car there? Granby would be my stop en route to visiting my grandchildren in Oak Creek, CO.
