I'm from Cleveland, so we don't have a lot of passenger service here. My last train ride had been when they still used steam engines, but now I am retired and we travel a lot. I have been very impressed with the train service in Europe, especially Switzerland. My son lives in San Diego so we fly out there a lot; the next time we will fly to LA to see one of the art museums. To get from there to San Diego, the best service I found was Amtrak, so we will be trying that. Assuming its good, we will probably work our way up to making the whole trip by rail; I have always wanted to ride that canadian line through the mountains, and possibly taking Amtrak from Vancouver down to San Diego, then back to Cleveland.
