On April 1, a "No Whistling Ordinance" that had been in effect in Placentia for 25 years was cancelled by the FRA. Trains had been proceeding through the 11 grade crossings in town without sounding their horns. There have been several community meetings recently, with the residents complaining about the additional noise from the train horns...up to 90 trains a day pass through the town (including the Southwest Chief and 2 Metrolink runs). There are plans for a grade separation project at the Imperial Hwy crossing, but that is probably still out in the future. The FRA is not likely to change its opinion about train horns, because fewer grade crossing collisions occur where trains sound their horns.

The "No Whistle Ordinance" in Placentia has been reestablished between 10 PM and 6 AM. I'll never understand why people build their homes next to railroads and airports and then complain about the noise!
