A segment of the ex-PE adjacent to Normandie, south of Torrance Blvd, is already long out of service. The remaining track will probably be completely removed soon, since there are now plans to build houses on the right of way.

Remind me please the status of the section from Watts through Gardena--is it already gone?

That segment is still in operation. It extends as far south as Torrance (sort of near where the old PE shops were). Last week, there were several freight cars spotted at sidings along Normandie, just south of 190th Street.
In Gardena, the Moneta branch is still alive (barely). It extends as far west as Crenshaw Lumber. The wig-wags at Gardena & Vermont were replaced within the past year with modern crossing gates, etc.
