Last week, west of Gila bend, the UP was doing major track work during the daylight hours. As I live near Tucson there are no trains running until late in the day. Does anyone have any idea when this construction project will end? Thanks.

DD224,
Interesting you should mention that. I was in the Phoenix/Tucson area on Feb. 12-13, and the same situation occurred. I saw a fleet of westbounds on the evening of the 12th while heading east on I-10 south of Phoenix.
The next day, while heading back west on I-10 during the day...nothing. A bunch of trains were 'stuck' at Tucson. There was some welding going on near Picacho, and no through trains ran until late in the afternoon. There were several cars of ballast and maintenance equipment at Casa Grande that evening (13th).
I don't know the full extent of the work but evidently they are working their way west. Maybe you could estimate a completion time based on the days passed/miles gained.
