Going to Albuquerque in a couple of weeks to do a week of railfanning. Is it worth making a trip to Trinidad? Number of trains running daily over Raton?

I don't think there are that many, but the route has some scenic areas.
If you go up that way check out the Santa Fe Southern between Santa Fe and Lamy.

Amtrak #3 and #4 meet, if on time, between
Rowe and Las Vegas, NM in mid-afternoon.
There is an excellent location to view both at a roadside pull-off (no facilities).
This is the location of Santa Fe's double horshshoe Curve.
You must go thru the I-25 fence, a gate is provided on the south side, and walk about 2oo+- feet to a spot where you have excellent views of both EB and WB trains.
If lucky you may also see freight trains, and
if real lucky BNSF is detouring trains over
this route while working on the RR between
Belen and KC which usually carries the freight to avoid the slower Raton Pass route.
