I've read several stories that mention a type of articulated locomotive that one of the eastern coal haulers used in the 1920's (can't remember whether it was Norfolk and Western or Virginian) that had a wheel arrangement of 2-10-10-2. However, I cannot find any pictures of one. I was curious to see what one looked like and how they compared in size to the Big Boy (4-8-8-4) and Allegheny (2-6-6-6) types of the 1940's.

Santa Fe had some that were made from 2-10-2s spliced together. They were discussed in "Iron Horses of the Santa FE".

This is new to me. I was aware that Santa Fe had some second hand 2-8-8-2's from N&W and a couple of early model 2-8-8-2's that were rebuilt into mikados, but not 2-10-10-2's. Santa Fe was never much for articulated power. What I'm really looking for is photos because I've never seen what a 2-10-10-2 looks like. I would imagine they must have been somewhat unwieldy on curves.

The Santa Fe 2-10-10-2s were built b/4 just after turn of century & cut up into 2-102s because they didn't work out as expected. The "Ironhorses..." book has pix and more info on these plus all the other articulateds Santa Fe had.

What about photos of other railroads 2-10-10-2's? Anyone know where I can find something like this?
