I was reading Myford Browning's reply about the Tustin Branch, and was wondering about the Flood of 1969. How did affect Railroad Operations in Southern California?

My "Flimsies" collection doesn't go back quite that far, maybe someone else's does. It was not a basin-wide "flood" but a good dose of rainfall that pushed a few So.Cal waterways over normal channels. Since Prado Dam was in place by then, the overall impact on Orange County wasn't as great as earlier years.

I can check my old CTC Boards from the era for more details, but nearly every line into the LA area was affected. The UP lost a bridge over the Cucamonga Wash three times, the SP Ojai branch was mostly washed out. The Santa Ana River bridge on the Olive District was closed for a while, I think it settled somewhat. Washouts and mud slide affected all the mountain passes. It was a real mess. A Steve stated, it was as bad as earlier flood such as the famaous 1938 flood.
