Our local Port Authority has 28 miles of lakeside trackage that would make a fine weekend excursion service. There is some interest in acquiring a servicable or restorable RDC-1, so I am soliciting any info or advice in this subject area.

RDC's would be perfect for the run, might I suggest getting some of the ex-BC Rail equipment. There are two left, an RDC1 and an RDC3.

BC-21 Built in 1962 for the Reading Railroad and BC-33 built in 1957 for the Pacific Great Eastern(later BC Rail).

You might want to check with the folks at Portola RR Museum (Feather River Railroad Society). They are also going down this path.

The Port of Tillamook Bay (Oregon) Railroad owns two RDC-1s used in excursion service - one is operable, the other being restored. The route travels along Tillamook and Garibaldi Bays of the Pacific Ocean, and a few miles up the Salmonberry River Canyon.
The Oregon Department of Transportation purchased several RDC-1s from BC Rail and plan to use them on an excursion train (over 90 miles one way) between Portland Union Station and Astoria - at the mouth of the Columbia River into the Pacific - for the Lewis & Clark Celebration.

AND...the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the NRHS owns two demotored RDC-9s which are used in occassional excursion service.
